May is Motorcycle Safety Month, let’s do our best to keep everyone on a bike this summer safer. More than half of motor cycle accidents involve another car or truck; drivers need to become more aware of motorcyclists.
Here a few safety tips for drivers;
- Take the extra time to look for a motorcycle in your blind spot when you are changing lanes on the highway or when you are at an intersection
- A motorcycle is most likely closer than it looks; avoid pulling out in front of a motorcyclist, wait the extra time to let them pass by you.
- Put a greater distance between a motorcycle and your car, because of its small size sometimes its brake lights are not as easily identified.
- Focus more; put down the phone, ipod and food
- ALWAYS use your turn signals, this way motorcyclists know which way you are going
- Keep your trash in your car; throwing trash out the window can cause a motorcyclist to get into an accident.
Remember that if you ever were involved in a crash with a motorcyclist and it was your fault you would probably never be able to forgive yourself; so take the time to avoid to check and avoid a accident. Also make sure your ma auto insurance fully covers you if you do happen to get an any kind of accident with a motorcycle.
